Dr. Hussam Albugami is a physician and health policy researcher driven by his ability to adapt to challenging situations and his deep passion for improving healthcare for all people. He holds an MD (MBBS) from King Abdulaziz University and a Master of Public Health (2016) from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. Driven by a commitment to public service, Dr. Albugami worked with the Saudi Arabian government in 2014 to promote healthcare awareness across 17 diverse-population cities. In 2015, he represented GCC countries at the United Nations in New York.
Dr. Albugami spent a decade (2014–2024) as a Senior Faculty Member in the Department of Preventive Medicine and Public Health at King Abdulaziz University. During this tenure, he mentored future public health projects while teaching foundational and advanced courses in epidemiology, biostatistics, research methods, and healthcare management. Dr. Albugami has contributed heavily to national and international health policy initiatives. His analytical background includes training as a research assistant and policy analyst during his doctoral studies at the McMaster Health Forum, where he supported evidence-informed decision-making.
Currently, he is an associate researcher at George Washington University, where he also contributes to US-Saudi healthcare projects and to teaching health policy and public health. His research centers on understanding the policymakers and systems that influence healthcare reform, support sustainability, and encourage equity and efficiency.
